Mud on Main opened in October 2011, serving coffee and breakfast items, including cookies, pastries and muffins. As the business grew, so did the menu, offering a breakfast menu, sandwiches, soup and more. After six years at the original location in Aurelia, the opportunity arose to purchase Copper Cup in Cherokee where coffee could be roasted on site, expanding the whole bean and ground coffee sales. In 2019, Mud on Main moved the roasting operation and coffee shop to a historic building at 207 West Main Street in Cherokee, further expanding the menu to include lunch. The coffee shop stays active well after dark with a stage featuring live music and serving beer, wine and cocktails. They are proud to partner with nonprofit organizations and charities, providing fundraising opportunities through bulk coffee sales.
Owner Jessica Kannengeiter lives in rural Cherokee with her husband Tyler and children Aubrey, Leah, Live and Beau. A dedicated staff and the flexibility of a small business owner allow Jess time to spend with her family raising pigs, showing cattle and breeding goats.
